GST Return Filings Procedure and Documentation.

It is important to note that a taxpayer is NOT required to file all types of returns. In fact, taxpayers are required to file returns depending on the activities they undertake.

Filing of returns and due date

Only those persons who fulfill all the following are eligible to apply for composition scheme:

Return Due Date
The Return for outward supplies shall be filed in the FORM GSTR -1Before 10th day of the month succeeding the tax period
The Return of Inward supplies shall be filed in the FORM GSTR -2Before 15th day of every month
FORM GST 3 is the monthly returnBefore 20th of every month
The Person who registered under composition scheme has to file quarterly return in Form GSTR -4Before 18th of the month succeeding the quarter

Who can avail composition scheme

Only those persons who fulfill all the following are eligible to apply for composition scheme:

  • Deals only in the intra-state supply of goods (or service of only restaurant sector).
  • Proof Of Does not supply goods not leviable to tax.
  • Identity & Have an annual turnover below Rs. 75 Lakhs (Rs. 50 Lakhs for north-eastern states) in preceding financial year.
  • He shall pay tax at normal rates in case he is liable under reverse charge mechanism.
  • Not supplying through e-commerce operator.
  • Not a manufacturer of – ice cream, pan masala or tobacco (and its substitutes)
